BISHOP ANTÓNIO MANUEL BUGAIO CONSTANTINO TAKES OFFICE AS FIRST BISHOP OF THE NEW DIOCESE OF CAIA, MOZAMBIQUE
On the morning of Wednesday, February 25, 2026, His Excellency Most Reverend Luís Miguel Muñoz Cárdaba, Apostolic Nuncio to Mozambique, conferred office on the new Bishop of Caia with the Eucharistic celebration and the reading of the Papal Bulls with which the Holy Father canonically erected the new Diocese and its Bishop, with St. Matthew as its patron saint.
The Mass, presided over by the newly installed Bishop, was concelebrated by, in addition to the Apostolic Nuncio to Mozambique, members of the Mozambican Episcopate and several priests. Religious men and women, members of the central and local government were also present. Father Pelágio Cachingona represented IMBISA at the event.
In his homily, the Prelate pledged to exercise his ministry as a true father, shepherd, and brother to all the faithful, without any distinction, guiding God’s people with zeal, humility, and a spirit of service. He also recalled that the Bishop is called to be a visible sign of Christ, the Good Shepherd, promoting unity, communion, and the authentic living of the Gospel within the diocesan community.
The celebration was marked by a profound spirit of faith and joy, witnessing a historic moment for the Catholic community of Caia, which now has its own episcopal circumscription, thus strengthening the evangelizing action of the Church in the Diocese, which is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Beira.
