BISHOP LÚCIO MUANDULA TAKES OFFICE AS BISHOP OF CHIMOIO
The Cathedral of Chimoio hosted the canonical installation of the Diocesan Bishop, Dom Lúcio Andrice Muandula, appointed on December 17, 2025, by Pope Leo XIV, on Sunday, February 22, 2026. The Mass, presided over by the newly installed Bishop, was concelebrated by the Apostolic Nuncio to Mozambique, Archbishop Luís Miguel Muñoz Cárdaba, along with members of the Mozambican Episcopate and several priests.
This was a historic moment of faith, communion and hope for the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Chimoio, following a three-year period without its own Bishop. The faithful, priests, religious men and women, and members of the central and local state apparatus, united in prayer, joyfully welcomed their new Pastor, entrusting this new phase of the Diocese and its Bishop to the Lord.
During the same celebration, Bishop Francisco Chimoio, OFMCap, was appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Xai-Xai, in an announcement made during the inauguration of Bishop Lúcio.
