Following the death of Bishop Osório Citora Afonso on 6th June, 2026, and leaving vacant the Dioceses of Quelimane and Beira, of which he was Bishop and Apostolic Administrator, the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, appointed, on 12th June, 2026, His Excellency Most Reverend Bishop António Manuel Bogaio Constantino, Bishop of the Diocese of Caia, Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Beira.
In accordance with Canon Law (canon 427), Bishop António Manuel Bogaio Constantino will simultaneously govern the two local Churches with the same rights and duties as a diocesan bishop, until the Holy See appoints a new titular Bishop.
IMBISA wishes Dom Constantino a fruitful apostolate, while inviting all the faithful, priests, religious and lay people to pray for their new Apostolic Administrator and for the eternal rest of Dom Osório Citora Afonso.
