Message of Congratulations on the Appointment of Bishop Sithembele Anton Sipuka to the Archdiocese of Cape Town

With immense joy and gratitude to God, IMBISA received the news of the appointment of Bishop Sithembele Anton Sipuka of SACBC, until then Bishop of Mthatha, as Archbishop of Cape Town, by the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, on 9th January, 2026. He succeeds Cardinal Stephen Brislin, who was the Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Cape Town.

On behalf of all the People of God in the IMBISA region, we express our profound joy. Bishop Sipuka’s firm faith, humble heart and generous service are a beacon for us all, and we see in this appointment a sign of divine providence for the flock entrusted to him.

May the Lord, the Good Shepherd, enlighten and strengthen him in this new mission, granting him wisdom and perseverance to guide and shepherd this Church with love and dedication. May we, together, build a new era of faith, hope and charity, under the light of the Gospel.

We reiterate our congratulations and assure you of our prayers for your ministry to be fruitful and full of blessings in the Archdiocese of Cape Town.

With esteem and respect!
