New Rector for Namibia Seminary

By Fr. Dumisani Vilakati, Director of the IMBISA Secretariat

On the 7th of April 2022, Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, the Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples, appointed Fr. Taiju Thaliath CMI as the Rector of the St. Charles Lwanga Seminary in Windhoek, Namibia. Fr. Taiju succeeds Fr. Benny Karuvelil CMI who, earlier this year, took up the responsibilities of Secretary General of the Namibia Catholic Bishops’ Conference.

Fr. Taiju was born in Kerala, India in 1974. He is a Missiologist, having obtained a Doctorate in this area from the Pontifical Urban University of Rome on the topic: The Spirit of Life in the Mission of the Church: A Critical Study in Light of 2012 WCC Document – ‘Together Towards Life’.

Fr. Taiju is not new in the Namibia Ecclesiastical Scene. He has been working at the St. Charles Lwanga Seminary as Formator and Lecturer in Missiology and Dogmatic Theology since 2017.

The IMBISA Secretariat congratulates Fr. Taiju on this appointment assuring him of prayers and every good wish. Being the Rector of a Seminary is one of the most important and demanding responsibilities in the Church as it concerns itself with the preparation of her future ministers and leaders.
