RIP Bishop Serafim Shingo-ya-Hombo

Note of condolence for the passing of Bishop Serafim Shingo-ya-Hombo, OFM.Cap. – Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Mbanza Congo – CEAST

“For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 4:14).

With deep sorrow and solidarity, IMBISA expresses its grief for the passing of Bishop Serafim Shingo-ya-Hombo, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Mbanza-Congo, on January 1, 2026, an example of faith and service to the Church. His life was a testament to dedication to the Gospel, guiding the flock with love and wisdom.

We unite in prayer for the repose of his soul, asking the Lord to receive him into eternal glory. May CEAST, the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, his family, friends, and the entire IMBISA community receive the consolation of the Holy Spirit.

May his departure be a reminder of the promise of eternal life, as Scripture says, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7).

May the soul of Bishop Serafim and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. May eternal light shine upon him, and may he rest in peace.
