On Sunday, 23 February 2025, Archbishop Frank Nubuasah of Gaborone confirmed 47 individuals during a special ceremony in Metsimotlhabe. Reflecting on the experience in a post shared on his Facebook page, the Archbishop began by describing the anticipation leading up to the event: “The tent has been put up since Thursday to make a point that something was going to happen here in Metsimotlhabe.” However, the excitement quickly turned to discomfort as the heat from the blazing sun inside the packed tent became almost unbearable. He candidly shared, “The heat was unbearable, and I almost suffered a heat stroke.” Despite these challenging conditions, the parishioners remained determined, with many bringing handheld devices to help move the air.
The ceremony proceeded with remarkable moments of grace, as 47 individuals received the sacrament of confirmation, and 17 of them received their First Holy Communion. Archbishop Nubuasah was particularly moved by the young people receiving communion for the first time. “I was touched deeply when the young people who received communion for the first time knelt to say a special prayer before communion,” he wrote, emphasizing the profound spiritual significance of the moment. The choir, despite the heat, continued to sing beautifully, their voices filling the air and adding a sense of reverence to the ceremony.
As the ceremony drew to a close, Archbishop Nubuasah shared a moment of great joy with the congregation. In his post, he expressed the excitement of the day’s conclusion: “A loud cheer was heard when the announcement was made that next year by this time we would be worshiping in a new church.” The promise of a new place of worship brought a wave of enthusiasm and hope, symbolizing the growth and future of the Metsimotlhabe parish. The day was not only a spiritual milestone but also a celebration of faith, resilience, and the community’s bright future.
