The Pope appointed this Tuesday (9/1/2024) as Bishop of the Diocese of São Tomé and Príncipe, Father João de Ceita Nazaré, from the Clergy of the same Diocese and who was until now Delegate of the Apostolic Administrator and Parish Priest of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Grace in São Tomé.
The now Dom João de Ceita Nazaré was born on August 22, 1973 in Trindade (São Tomé island). He attended the Major Seminary of Lisbon and was ordained a priest on August 4, 2006. He obtained a degree in Theology from the Catholic University of Portugal and a degree in Teaching and Portuguese Literature from the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança.
He has held the following positions so far: Parish Priest in Angolares and Ribeira Afonso between 2007 and 2016; responsible for Cáritas Diocesana and Rádio Jubilar; professor at the University of São Tomé and Príncipe; Vicar General of the Diocese of São Tomé and Príncipe from 2010 to 2022; Delegate of the Apostolic Administrator and, as of 2016, Parish Priest of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Grace in São Tomé.
